How do “Working with Metal” and “Wax and Metal” differ?

Working in metal, you are limited by the shape of the stock — a sheet or a bar. Wax lets you create almost any form before it is cast in silver: three-dimensional shapes, complex relief, organic lines, textures and other details that working in metal alone cannot give you.

What to know beforehand Working with Metal Wax and Metal
Duration 4–5 hours, one day Two days, 3–4 hours each
How it works You work in silver from the start: you make the ingot, form the piece, solder, sand and polish it to a finished result. You model the piece in wax, we cast it in silver, and in the second session you finish the piece yourself.
Gap between sessions None — it is all one session. At least 2 working days, while the piece is being cast.
What you can make Best suited to pared-back pieces: rings, bracelets, earrings and pendants with simple forms. Allows almost any piece: rings, earrings, pendants, lockets, brooches and other work with complex form, volume and texture.
Who it suits If you want to learn metalwork from scratch, or make something simple and clean in a single session. If you have a complex form, volume or texture in mind — and can come twice.
